An open letter to elders
Posted Feb 16, 2012 By Gary MagwoodDear Editor,
Okay fellow grey hairs, time to get off the couch, time to turn off the TV, time to stop griping among ourselves, time to turn Timmy's time into positive action.
Our federal government can afford high tech jet fighters, more prisons, increased judicial expenses, ongoing subsidies for profitable natural resource companies and even a spare $5 million to help Caterpillar pay their moving expenses from London to Indiana. Oh, and let's not forget the new "Panda deal," a mere $10 million.
It's time to Occupy Our Pensions. It's time to challenge the Reform agenda. It's time to take action. It's time to tell Steven, Peter, Vic, Rona, John, Tony Jim, Jason, Leona and our own MPs to open a conversation about their pensions and of those who sit in the chamber of sober second thought. It's time we set an example for the generations right behind us. It's time to participate in our democracy or suffer the consequences of our apathy (thank you Mendelson Joe).
We, the elders, have the power, because we take the time to mark a ballot. Let's use it.
