EMC Sports -Cordova - While Don Cherry was punishing eyes with his vivid suit in Summerside, PEI, some hardy players took to the ice in Cordova with their own celebration of Hockey Day in Canada, the third annual Cordova Outdoor Hockey Classic.

The eight team, three-on-three tourney was a fund raiser for the Cordova Mines Recreation Association and its fabulous outdoor skating pad. It was also a true test of Mother Nature's unpredictable winter which produced super-cool temperatures for game day but served up a mixed bag in the week leading up to the tourney which made ice-making difficult at times.
But that was all forgotten once the puck was flipped up into the air.
"Players love coming up to Cordova and to get outside and out of the arenas," organizer Tim Beckford told the Northwest EMC.
Beckford said the outdoor ink is a testament to what the community of Cordova with help from the township has been able to do.
"It's a great place," he said.
Funds raised will be put toward putting a new paint cover on the pad so that ice remains solid and useable when bright sunshine beats down on it.
"This is a day to celebrate Canada's game."
